Jonathan Van Ness Brings ‘Road To Beijing’ World Tour To Australia Next Year

The Emmy-nominated star, podcaster, and hairstylist to the stars Jonathan Van Ness is bringing his ‘Road To Beijing’ world tour to Australia in February next year. He will launch the tour at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre then will head his way to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre before entertaining audiences at Perth’s Riverside Theatre. Sydney’s International Convention Centre will see the final show. The AU leg marks Jonathan’s first ever shows in Australia and follows his debut New Zealand dates happening at The Civic in Auckland and Christchurch Town Hall.

Last year was a breakthrough year for Jonathan, who realised two new passions—for the arts of stand-up comedy and figure skating from which his first worldwide comedy tour is inspired from. Yes, he attempts to become a figure-skating prodigy just in time for the next Olympic cycle, which just so happens to be in 2022 in Beijing, hence the tour name.

The TV personality can be seen starring on Netflix’s Emmy Award-winning reboot series ‘Queer Eye’, where he shines as the show’s groomer, hair guru and self-care advocate. He also starred on the Emmy-nominated series ‘Gay of Thrones’ (Funny or Die), a witty social commentary series recapping HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’. Launched in 2013, the series just wrapped its seventh and final season and garnered Emmy nominations in 2016 and 2018 for ‘Outstanding Short Form Variety Series’.

He also continues to work on his passion project, his podcast ‘Getting Curious’, a weekly exploration of all the things he is curious about. The podcast was listed as one of the Top Podcasts of 2018 by Time Magazine, and recently bagged the iHeart Radio Award for Best LGBTQ Podcast. Most recently, he announced that his revelatory memoir ‘Over the Top’ will be released on September 24, 2019.

“After more than three decades of travelling around the world in a van, or spending all day flying vast distances to play a gig, I’m looking forward to having some time to explore cities that I usually only get to see between the soundcheck and the show. And this three night stand format is a way of keeping things interesting, both for me and the audience. I tried it out in Auckland recently and had a lot of fun revisiting my back pages.” – Billy Bragg
